PROGRAM: CITADEL ARCHAEOLOGICAL Rupac (SAW HUARAL) EASTER 2011 21-22 and April 23.

salient aspects of the route

south of Lima is the province of Huaral, warm place to which we associate with good fruit and agricultural farms as well as a place to visit on Sundays. However, this province extends its territory from the sea beaches to the high peaks of the mountains, giving us the Andean peoples, deep gorges and hot springs. In one of these summits is Rupac at the top of the gorge of the river Añasmayo. To reach Rupac is necessary first to reach the small town of Florida and then continue to Pampas, deserted town that serves as a temporary shelter for a visit to the archaeological citadel, it is no more 3-hour walk from Pampas.

archaeological citadel

Rupac is approx. at 3400 m altitude, on the tops of the ravine Añasmayo. It is a group of approx. 60 buildings of stone slabs that make up a mini city that looks passageways, concourses and dwellings in neighborhoods. These homes are called kullpis. They feature high ceilings suggest that its inhabitants were not exactly very low height. Despite its age and the almost total neglect of the authorities, some estimated at more than 1000 years, the archaeological has been incredibly well preserved, showing visitors the incredible ceiling slabs. scholars assigned to Rupac as one of the most important places of the ethnicity of Los Atavillos, people who ruled the peaks of this part of the Andes. Rupac Besides there are other places belonging to this ethnic group, all scattered across the high peaks of this part of the range. To name some are: Chiprac, Anaya, Marka Kullpi (Rupac neighbors). And a little further, Shinchimarca, perhaps the largest Atavillos site, but also one of the most destroyed.

As we go on the trip

Rupac To visit the most appropriate thing is to stay in the Pampas, the nearest town, it is close to Florida, where people regularly come up Huaral mobility and has basic services. It is therefore essential camping. Pampas has ruined homes and even a very old temple they say it is colonial. Nobody lives in this town, for what they call "ghost town" The walls of these houses shelter us a bit of air that runs on these ledges of the mountain, which is why there is camping. Huaral to Florida dirt road has a fairly regular appearance like to travel alone. Besides this road goes back to the heights of Cerro de Pasco. From Florida to Pampas there to move dirt road but there needs to be done with a driver expert who knows the route. Sometimes the road is blocked when an avalanche fell in the rainy season. We hope to reach Pampas mobility, and make the climb in less than half an hour. To find the route blocked or damaged will have to go from Florida to walk Pampas made to lengthen the route about two or three hours of climbing.

So our team should be comprised of

· trekking Boot or shoe with good cocada.

· Warm clothes for the night (In Pampas can lower the temperature at night). And light clothing for the day (with the walk and we sudaremos heated).

· Waterproof. For the time is likely to rain, especially in the evenings.

· Backpack at least 40 liters to accommodate all our stuff. Small backpack or attack for the ascent to Rupac.

· mid-mountain tent (with cover that reaches the ground)

· Sleeping bag (mid-mountain, or at least or is it warm flannel on the inside), sleeping bags do not harbor beach many times here.

· Insulate or insulator to the floor.

· poncho in case it rains.

· Kitchenette camping (if they are not consulted about it).

· Food dehydrated soups, porridges, noodles, etc. Avoid canned. Water, a couple of liters. In Rupac no springs, so we can bring water purification tablets.
