Community Project Urban Health: a commitment by all
The city of Buenos Aires is increasing every year the amount of waste produced and sent to landfills in the metropolitan area Buenos Aires. According to the Metropolitan Area Coordination Ecological Society of the State (CEAMSE) buried the city in 2008 about 1,884,460 tons of waste, representing an increase of 14.53% compared to the amount buried in 2007 (1,645,368 tons), the highest variation of the last 14 years.
This growth has a double negative impact: on the one hand, it produces a sharp deterioration of the urban environment and their health conditions, and on the other, aggravating the situation of landfills. The challenge then is to reduce the volume of garbage in the city, which requires the commitment of all actors involved in the process, from neighbors to the various levels of government.
This is a long chain of responsibility whose first link is the citizen, which should gradually incorporate the habit of separating domestic waste and dispose them properly in public, in order to facilitate recovery.

The city of Buenos Aires produces over 5,000 tonnes of waste per day. The volume increases each year and its treatment requires the coordinated participation of all stakeholders, from neighbors to the different jurisdictions of government.
